Virtual reality is a reality now. The scope and dynamics of the utilities of virtual environments in modern businesses cannot be undermined. The current trends predict that businesses which utilise virtual reality are likely to reap huge benefits. Augmented reality is not possible without competent hardware and computer technology. At the same time many think that there’s nothing innovative about a keyboard for instance but they should take a look at the best gaming keyboard – it seems unrealistic.

The computer technology that enables the creation and development of virtual reality environments consists of both hardware and software. The innovative ideas that go into the creation of interactive graphic simulated environments have shown tremendous potential. These innovations are not just available for businesses alone but can also be found in personal computers and headsets available for individual use too.

Virtual reality workstations and hardware:

Suitable and convenient hardware for VR is a basic requirement. Augmented reality requires some special hardware resources. The customised PCs which are VR adaptable, input and output hardware devices and special drives are required for the virtual environments to be functional.

The human-computer interaction is basic to any virtual reality system. Currently, the most popular hardware gadgets that are used for an immersive experience are headsets, gyroscopic and 3D mouse, tracking devices etc., The input devices/ hardware is required for human to computer interaction and the output devices are the modes of communication from the computer to the human in the form of a virtual reality experience.

The Input Devices that are used in VR experiences:

As we all know, input devices are required for humans to interact with their computers. The trends in the latest input devices reveal that these are becoming highly intuitive and suggestive and very practical. Trackers and manipulators are very useful input devices in an immersive reality environment. They assimilate the position, movements and orientation of the human actions and send the necessary information to the computer which then processes the data and does the needful.

Typically, the input devices used in VR experiences must be very easy to use and be able to deliver both absolute and relative data to the computer, apart from assimilating the position coordinates of the human-computer interaction in a VR environment.

The Output Devices that are used in VR experiences:

The Output devices are the ones which lead to the immersive experience of augmented reality. The technology that goes into the development of these output devices has been very focussed on a very natural presentation of visual information. The latest technology that goes into these output devices are liquid crystal diodes or LCD displays and cathode ray tubes. The focus is on fast updates, high-resolution, brightness and superior graphics quality to improve the overall simulation experience.

The technology that goes into the VR experience is still in its initial stages.The hardware technology that enables human-computer interaction in a VR environment is spatially oriented and is inclusive of superior visual, audio display with a tracking interface. It is a field that seems to be bursting with new ideas and innovations. The trends reveal a broad gamut of ideas and innovations waiting to be explored.
